What is on your drive now?

Overlay or rebuild?

The honest answer starts underneath

Resin bound copies whatever is beneath it. Laid over sound, cured tarmac or concrete, it gives a new surface in a day for a lower price. Laid over a base that is cracking, sinking or moving, the faults come back through within a few winters.

That is why every quote starts with a survey of the base, the falls and the drainage, and why our quotes say in writing which route we recommend and why.

Choose a blend

Pick a colour that belongs to your house

Warm golds sit with red brick, buffs with stone and cream render, greys with modern homes. Tap a blend to see it larger.

Colour guide

Golden Pea

Warm honey and amber stones with a few cream and grey flecks. The classic resin drive colour and the most forgiving of dust and leaves.

Suits: Red brick, cream render, period homes

Swatches are drawn to show colour and texture; we bring real samples to every survey because blends look different outdoors and when wet.

What goes underneath

Two ways to build a resin drive

Questions people ask

How much does a resin driveway cost?

Over a sound existing tarmac or concrete base, resin bound is typically about £45–£70 per m² including VAT. With a full dig-out and new permeable base it is typically about £75–£120 per m². A two-car drive of around 40 m² commonly comes to about £1,800–£2,800 as an overlay, or about £3,000–£4,800 with a new base, before edging, drainage and regional differences.

What is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded?

Resin bound mixes stone and resin together into a smooth, permeable surface. Resin bonded scatters stone onto a resin coat for a textured, grippy finish that is not permeable.

Do I need planning permission?

Usually not for a permeable resin bound drive at a house. In England a front-garden surface over 5 m² must be porous or drain to a permeable area within the property, and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland follow the same principle. An overlay on sealed tarmac needs to drain to a permeable area. Flats, listed buildings, some conservation areas and new dropped kerbs are treated differently.

Can you lay resin over my existing drive?

Yes, if it is sound tarmac or concrete. Block paving, gravel and broken or sinking surfaces need to come out and be replaced with a new base first.

How long does it take?

A typical drive over a ready base is laid in a day. A full dig-out and new base usually takes 3–7 days on site.

When can I drive on it?

You can usually walk on it after 4–6 hours and drive on it after 24–48 hours, depending on the temperature.

How long will it last?

Laid correctly on a sound base, resin bound typically lasts 15–25 years.

Can resin be laid in winter?

Only on dry days with ground and air above about 5°C. Rain and cold stop resin curing properly, so laying days are planned around the weather.
